Case Study
Scout Coffee is an independent coffee company born in Newport, South Wales, with a mission to explore the world of coffee one roast at a time. Founded by two friends with a passion for travel, discovery, and quality beans, Scout Coffee positions itself as an accessible yet expertly curated brand for everyday coffee drinkers and enthusiasts alike. What sets Scout apart is its spirit of adventure—each roast is a new journey, and every cup is a small expedition in taste. Our job was to create a branding system that brought this sense of exploration to life, turning each blend into an experience with its own identity.
A different brew
The specialty coffee market is filled with ultra-minimalist packaging, earthy palettes, and serious-toned design. While there’s beauty in restraint, Scout Coffee wanted to carve a different path—fun, memorable, and story-driven, without sacrificing quality or craft.
Scout Coffee has a passion for truly exceptional coffee for coffee lovers that is not pretencious. We created a brand for Scout that aligns with their simple, un-complicated approach, As part of the brand we developed a brand mascot, whilst mascots are a common addition to many brands, they tend to follow the “Rubber Hose” illustration style, a style popular in the 1920’s. In order to differentiate Scout from the crowd we researched and took inspiration from classic illustration styles from the 1940’s to create our Scout, with the intention of using the same Scout in a variety of scenarios to represent different roasts—from light and fruity filter-friendly options to rich, chocolatey espresso blends.
Tactility for taste
Exploring different materials for different flavour profiles allows for greater understanding and engagement with the audience. Gold foils for premium roasts, natural feeling brown paper substrates, and standard packaging solutions all allow for a totally different feel for each Scout Coffee roast and flavour profile.
