Make It Marylebone, a central London initiative dedicated to promoting the unique charm and character of the Marylebone area, approached us to create a visually striking, user-friendly illustrated map. The goal was to guide tourists and locals alike through the district’s vibrant blend of boutiques, independent eateries, cultural attractions, and green spaces—while reinforcing the area’s sophisticated and contemporary brand identity.

Mapping Marylebone

Marylebone offers a rich tapestry of experiences, from historic architecture and chic cafés to hidden courtyards and exclusive retailers. The challenge was to distill this dense urban environment into a map that felt modern, accessible, and easy to interpret—while also serving as a piece of design that visitors would want to keep.

Iconic style for an iconic area

We developed a heavily illustrated map that blends artistic flair with intuitive navigation. Using a chic, bold, geometric, and minimalistic illustration style, we highlighted key streets, landmarks, and destinations with clean lines, vibrant but controlled color palettes, and elegant iconography. The map omits unnecessary clutter, relying on simple shapes and bold visual hierarchy to guide the eye. Illustrated elements included stylized representations of Marylebone’s most iconic features—Regent’s Park, Marylebone High Street, the Wallace Collection, and selected storefronts—rendered in a consistent simplistic geometric aesthetic. Each element was purposefully designed to complement the overall structure while offering a visual “snapshot” of the areas distinct and broad charm.

The illustrated map for Make It Marylebone goes beyond simple wayfinding—it acts as a branded experience in its own right. By combining minimalism with expressive design, it serves as a crafted useful keepsake that is as stylish as the area it represents, providing key information, attractions all whilst promoting the Make it Marylebone initiative
