Located at the top of Cardiff and Vale College and offering panoramic views of the city, The Classroom is no ordinary restaurant—it’s a refined dining destination run by hospitality students in training, supported by industry professionals. This unique concept merges high-end cuisine with education, giving students real-world experience in a live, fully operational restaurant. We were approached to design and develop a new website that reflected the elegance and sophistication of the dining experience, while also supporting the restaurant’s core purpose as a training environment. The result is a minimal, chic digital experience that positions The Classroom alongside top-tier dining venues in the city while providing practical tools for the internal team to manage updates with ease.
Inspired by The Classroom’s sleek interior and fine dining ethos, the visual direction was rooted in modern simplicity. A monochrome palette with refined typographic choices gives the site a polished, editorial look, generous white space and a modular layout highlight key content while keeping the design airy and uncluttered subtle animation and transitions were introduced to elevate the user experience without distracting from the core message. Photography plays a crucial role, with professional shots of dishes, the venue, and the student chefs to bring warmth and authenticity to the brand story.
With the menu evolving frequently—based on seasonal ingredients and student creativity—it was vital that staff could update the site easily. We designed and implemented a custom menu management system within the CMS, enabling, quick updates to dish names, descriptions, and prices, easy organisation by course or tasting menus, seamless display on both desktop and mobile devices, eliminating the need for outdated PDFs saving time for the internal team—keeping menus fresh and current with minimal effort.
